Lenny, you walk into the room and stop dead in your tracks. Thad, you walk in right behind Lenny and practically walk into his back as he stops short. You lean around him and your jaw drops with what you see.
Both of you see an empty room. On floor, there is a rough circle laid out with thick wax candles. There are maybe 20 of them, all burning and flickering. The wax is dripping down and pooling on the floor in thick globs and puddles. They've been burning for awhile. In the center of the circle is a person laying on the ground spread eagle. Well, it used to be a person. The form on the floor is very clearly dead flesh. The skin is pale and covered in cuts and bruises. The head is covered in a black cloth mask with two flashes of silver where the eyes should be. You look up from the horror on the floor and see that the walls are covered in blood.
Thad: your keen eye notices that the body on the floor has been dismembered and has been placed back into a roughtly human shape. You can't tell what gender the body used to be due to the extreme level of damange that has been caused. The flesh is hanging in ribbons from the muscles and bone. Small, long cuts run from the neck down to the feet. The joints had been hacked apart by a large blade, maybe an axe. The head is severed as well. You can see that the silver specks on the eyes are two large coins. Blood has pooled on the floor under the fleshy lumps and is spreading out in a sickening puddle. With a shudder, you notice that the fingers are curled in agony, as if the daamage the body started out as torture. You tear you gaze away from this horror and stare at the walls. They are covered in runes and symbols that have been painted on thickly with blood.
Both of you ROLL SANITY.
Thad, you can also roll Knowledge Occult or Cthulhu Mythos, your choice.

Lenny: you have seen enough traumatic accidents during your life on the road that the scene in front of you, while brutal and shocking, does not completely phase you. Plus, you still are telling yourself that this is all part of a grift that someone is pulling on Henshaw. Of course, what you're looking at now sure all hell seems extreme for a con.
That being said, you still take 2 points of Sanity Damage.

Thad: You feel nauseous at the display of carnage in front of you, but you pull yourself together and take in the details with a calm mind. Something seems familiar to you, but you can't figure it out.
Make a Knowledge Occult or Cthulhu Mythos check (as well as any other check that you feel would help).
You take 2 points of Sanity Damage.

Thad: You attempt to study the facts of the scene while ignoring the carnage. The last time you saw anything like this, you were in the jungles of Brazil, and you were the subject of the awful rituals. You shudder, and dig in deep to your academic training to focus. After a moment, you realize that you are looking at a summoning ritual. The candles are actually grouped in small arrangements at 5 equidistant points around the circle's perimeter. The corpse's limbs and head are lined up with each of these points. Most of the knife wounds also line up with the 5 points. Some, though, seem to be just for the sake of causing pain. After the sacrifice was made, the blood was used to used to create sigils and runes that served to focus the prayers of whoever was performing this horrible deed. You have seen similar runes and markings through all of your research, but you are not sure exactly what these were written for. All summoning has to have a very specific set of rule and guidelines, but you cannot quite figure out the specific intention of these workings. You are also sure you know something about the black hood and silver coins, but you can't remember it exactly. In general, though, you feel that whoever completed this ritual knew exactly what he was doing and was most likely successful. A horrible feeling of dread creeps over you, sending shivers down your spine and gooseflesh across your arms.
You gain 1 point in Cthulhu Mythos.

Lenny shushes everyone and listens closely to see if there's anyone else nearby.
He uses his big frame to block the door and keep Helena out
"This is no place for a lady ma'am, someone's been torn up pretty bad in here"
If she really tries he'll let her by, but he's making an effort to be a gentleman by the eras standards
He mutters under his breath; "Damn I could use... something..."

Helena was distracted by what she's been seeing out of the corner of her eye. She's very frustrated that she can't get a good look at it. She noticed the boys in the lighted room, and specifically Lenny in the doorway. She heads over and tries to enter. When Lenny tries to block her she rolls her eyes. Helena appreciates his protection over her but she's sure from all her exploration and education she can handle whatever is in there. "Thad what's going on?" She yells over Lenny shoulder and she pushes by him.

Helena: you push past Lenny and freeze in your tracks. You witness a scene of utter carnage, the likes of which you have never seen before. You see a dismembered body on the floor, spread eagle and dripping with blood and gore. Your eyes flash over the shocking white of raw bone and the sickening red of exposed muscle and organs. You see flayed skin and expoed tendons from the torture the body experienced. In your peripheral vision, you see the walls dripping with blood in strange symbols. The room starts to spin around you and the runes and sigils blur into a swimming mass of bloody writing. You feel incredibly dizzy and sway back on your feet. You start to picth backwards. As you look up at towards the ceiling, you see a small fuzzy thing sitting on the exposed pipes. It is starting down at you. In a moment of clarity, you see that while the body appears to be that of an incredibly large muscular rat, the face is that of a human. It is leering down at you and the eyes are glowing with a sickly orage.
ROLL SANITY with a 20 point penalty. (meaning for this roll only, treat your sanity as 20 lower to get your result)

Helena stumbles backward. Although there is a lot to take in her eyes are locked on the rat monster. She tries to scream but nothing comes out. She draws her gun and points it at the monster, she doesn't shoot bc her hands are shaking badly.

Thad and Lenny: roll Perception.

Being on edge from the room and the feeling he has seen this from before, Thad draws his pistol quickly at the sight of Helena's meltdown. He instinctively pointed the pistol Helena's way until she points towards the ceiling.
"Hey! no put the gun down, everything will be fine. Wait what are you pointing at?"
Thad pulls his weapon from Helena and points towards the ceiling as well looking for the spot Helena is pointing to.
((Shit Balls, Thad is a idiot.))
